Colby Armstrong and John-Michael Liles Expected To Return Tonight

The Toronto Maple Leafs will have a couple of familiar faces in the lineup tonight when they face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Air Canada Center.

Both Colby Armstrong and John-Michael Liles are expected to be in the lineup Wednesday night, which should give the Buds an element of grit in the form of Armstrong and a shot in the arm offensively in Liles.

Armstrong has suffered through a number of injuries this season, limiting him to just nine games. Meanwhile, Liles will be coming back from a concussion that saw him miss five weeks of game action.

To the Leafs’ credit, they have found a way to keep their offense and power play hot in the absence of Liles, but the team has sorely missed the physical game that Armstrong plays for most of the season.

With a power forward being one of Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke’s biggest needs heading into the deadline there is hope that Armstrong can get himself into game shape and assume that physical role the Maple Leafs so badly need.

Either way, whether Armstrong succeeds or fails, Burke will likely add another forward to his lineup before the trade deadline hits.

Nazem Kadri, will probably be removed from the lineup in favor of Armstrong, while Keith Aulie is expected to take a seat in favor of Liles.

The Maple Leafs dropped a tough 5-4 shoot out loss to the Penguins on Tuesday night, ruining a three-point effort from Mikhail Grabovski, who was celebrating his 28th birthday last night.

Goaltender Jonas Gustavsson made 30 of 34 saves on the evening, but may have been guilty of a gaff or two. Gus made just six saves on nine shots in the third period, which allowed the Penguins to tie the match 4-4 with less that ten seconds to go in the third period.

With the Buds playing back-to-back games tonight after the all-star game there is a good chance that seldom used James Reimer will get the nod between the pipes tonight.

Until next time,

  1. i agree liles and armstrong will be a welcome addition to the leafs.

  2. Dave says:

    Bada bing bada boom…..

Your bang on as usual dude!

Tight game with little chances either way. Nice comeback effort from the buds and a few lucky breaks which helps the boys moving forward.

This article was key here tonight. Army and Liles really helped their teamates out and kept things together out there. Never too high, never too low. Anyone else see the value out there. Liles is a master at damage control (among other talents) and Army just keeps the boys moving….anyone see a 4th line cause so much havoc???

Keep her going brother! Loving these articles!
