The Calgary Flames are reporting that Ian White has signed a one-year contract that will see the former Toronto Maple Leaf make close to $3 million. Originally taken in the sixth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, White spent portions of five seasons with the Maple Leafs before being dealt to the Calgary Flames on January 31, 2010 as part of the deal that sent Dion Phaneuf to Toronto. White, 26, scored four goals and registered 12 points through 27 games with the Flames last season. Add that to his nine goals and 26 points with the Leafs last season, and White emerged with a career high 13 goals and 38 points through 83 games in 2009-10. Flames general manager Darryl Sutter signed both Olli Jokinen (who signed a two-year, $6 million contract) and Alex Tanguay (who signed a one-year, $1.7 million contract), in hopes that both players can somehow find a way where they failed before. As expected, the Edmonton Oilers used the number one pick to select Taylor Hall , while the Boston Bruins selected Tyler Seguin with the second overall pick. Hall, who won back-to-back Memorial Cups and Memorial Cup MVP’s, gives the Oilers a very talented, offensive-minded forward who should bring a certain amount of respect back to the floundering Oilers franchise. In Seguin, the Bruins get a player that won the OHL scoring title and is the more well rounded of the two top picks. Given Seguin’s skill-set the Bruins feel as if he is ready to step into their everyday lineup as a top six forward.
