Toronto Maple Leafs Pre-Season Action: Clipped 7-3 By Detroit Red Wings

In their second last game before the real dance commences the Toronto Maple Leafs had their heads handed to them, getting outclassed by the Detroit Red Wings by a score of 7-3 in front of 18,577 fans at the Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings dominated the Maple Leafs all game long, pounding Leafs starter Jussi Rynnas with a total of 34 shots, including a third period that saw the Red Wings fire a total of 16 shots to the Leafs four. A lot of Maple Leaf fans were bragging about the Leafs’ penalty kill, which had been very good heading into tonight’s action, only to see the Red Wings make a mockery of the Leafs’ PK, scoring four times on seven chances, mostly thanks to Tyler Bozak and Mike Komisarek who took two penalties apiece. Darcy Tucker: Former Toronto Maple Leaf Retires

Joining a long line of players that honed their skills in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, former Toronto Maple Leaf Darcy Tucker has elected to hang up his skates in favor of retirement. Known for his tenacious brand of hockey, intense compete level and ability to get underneath the skin of opposing players, Tucker leaves the game after 14 seasons, where he accumulated a total of 215 goals, 261 assists, 476 points and 1410 penalty minutes through 947 career games. Originally drafted in the sixth round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, Tucker is best known for his time spent in Toronto with the Maple Leafs. Tucker was a fan favorite who “earned” the nickname of Sideshow Bob for his dirty, sometimes questionable hits and brash nature, something Leafs fans everywhere admired in the 5’10”,
